The Brooklyn Nets came up short against the Orlando Magic on Friday night at the Amway Center.

111. 147. Final. 118. 38

The Brooklyn Nets lost a disappointing game on Friday against the Orlando Magic. With the loss, the Nets drop to 7-18 on the season and abysmal 1-11 away from Barclays Center. They also continue their tough streak of not having back-to-back wins at any point yet this season. With the victory, the Magic move to 12-16 on the season and snap their six-game losing streak at home.

The Nets just did not have it on the defensive end of the court tonight. The Magic came into the game averaging only 96.6 points per game, second-worst in the NBA. It was a letdown for the Nets, as they had a strong night on defense against the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night when they allowed only 97 points.

In the second half Brooklyn was unable to slow down the Magic at all. Orlando scored 65 points in the half and can thank the Nets for plenty of their 35 fourth quarter points. The Magic went 17-of-19 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to help increase their lead and put away the Nets.

More from Brooklyn Nets

On the evening the Magic attempted 42 free throws, making 33, while the Nets attempted 26 and made 22. That right there was the biggest difference in the outcome as the Nets held Orlando to 40.2 percent shooting; the Nets, on the other hand, made 47 percent of their shots in the game.

This was not a game the Nets should have lost, as they knocked down 40.7 percent of their three-point attempts as well. Bojan Bogdanovic and Luis Scola each made three shots from deep tonight, while Sean Kilpatrick added two as the Nets made 11 on the night.

But, the Magic played a much cleaner game. Brooklyn committed 17 turnovers and 32 fouls, while Orlando turned the ball over only seven times with 17 fouls called against them. Almost doubling your opponents turnovers and fouls committed is not a recipe for a victory, and the Nets found that out tonight.

Three Stars

C Nikola Vucevic, Magic — Vucevic was a difference maker in this game the moment he got off the Magic’s bench. He did not start the game, as he returned after a three-game absence because of a back injury. He showed no ill effect of the injury, as he dominated the Nets. He scored 21 points with 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. He also added four assists, two steals, and three blocks with only one turnover.

C Brook Lopez, Nets — Lopez led the way for the Nets in the scoring department. He poured in 22 points on 9-of-19 from the field, but he missed all three of his three-point attempts. He was able to add six rebounds, one assist, one steal and five blocks on the night. It was nice to see the sometimes defensively challenged Lopez make a difference on that end of the court.

PG Jeremy Lin, Nets — Lin returned from a one-game absence because of a back injury. It was the second game this week, as he played 20 minutes on Monday against the Houston Rockets following a multi-week absence because of a hamstring injury. Tonight he scored 17 points in 20 minutes, handing out three assists with three rebounds. The Nets are a better team when Lin is in the fold and he should see his minutes increase the more he knocks off the rust.
