One of the glaring weaknesses for the Jets has been the lack of production from the tight end position. In 2014, the Jets drafted tight endJace Amaroto help given them another weapon in their passing offense. Prior to the start of this season, Amaro was cut by the Jets, as he quickly turned into a bust for the franchise.

This season, the Jets have very rarely used their tight ends, and that can certainly be a reason why we have seen the offense struggle. Having a good tight end is a luxury for an offense. If you have a skilled one, they can be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. The Jets should know this very well due to the fact that they playRob Gronkowskiof the New England Patriots twice a year.

However, the Jets have very little talent at the position currently. This season, they did signAustin Seferian-Jenkinsafter he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Seferian-Jenkins does have some talent, but we haven’t seen it in New York. This season, Seferian-Jenkins has totaled five receptions and 55 receiving yards for the Jets.

In the draft, the Jets could certainly use a tight end. Generally, a decent one can be found in the middle rounds, and adding one would be a big help for the development of a young quarterback.
