Jets vs 49ers: Five Players to Watch in NFL Week 14
By Nick Ziegler
– Bryce Petty
For the Jets fans that decide to tune in on Sunday, all eyes will be on quarterback Bryce Petty. After the embarrassing loss to the Colts, head coach Todd Bowles named Petty the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.
On Sunday, Petty will be making his second career start. In his first start a few weeks ago against the Los Angeles Rams, the results were mixed for Petty. In the loss, Petty totaled one touchdown pass, one interception, and 163 passing yards. Even though the offense was missing in action for most of the game, Petty did help lead the Jets on a 99-yard touchdown drive. The play calling in that game was extremely conservative. However, with little to play for, Petty should be allowed to throw the ball more freely.
In the loss to the Colts, Petty made some nice throws and some really poor throws. Coming in at halftime with limited time in practice during the week was surely a challenge for Petty. It is hard to fairly judge him for that performance, as we should see him sharper against the 49ers.

With four games left in the season, Petty will have the opportunity to prove himself. The Jets are surely thinking that they will need to find a quarterback for next season, but Petty can show them that he is capable.
