With a 1-11 record, it has clearly not been a good season for the 49ers in 2016. To start the season, Blaine Gabbert was the starting quarterback for the team, but he was replaced by Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick has had a very strange career in the NFL thus far. It wasn’t too long ago that he replaced Alex Smith and helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl. During that time, people believed that he was better that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Due to his strong arm and great mobility, Kaepernick was being considered as one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.

Since then, things have done a complete 180. Last season, Kaepernick lost his to Gabbert for his ineffective play. Since getting the job back this season, Kaepernick has played some good games, but he has also looked very poor at times. Last week, Kaepernick was benched against the Chicago Bears after being sacked five times and completing just one pass.

Chip Kelly decided to go back to Kaepernick this week against the Jets, and he will have a favorable matchup. The Jets defense has been awful all season, and Kaepernick can expose some weaknesses in the secondary with deep throws. As always, the Jets will have to be mindful of what Kaepernick can do with his legs.
