Colts vs Jets: Five Takeaways From NFL Week 13
By Nick Ziegler
– Bowles’ Seat Gets Hot
After the awful showing on Monday Night Football, Toad Bowles’ seat likely just a bit hotter. While having a 3-9 record is never a good thing for a team, effort and discipline should always be there. On Monday night, the Jets had neither.
In the first half, the Jets were penalized three times for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. These types of penalties are inexcusable for a team, and to have three in the first half was bad for the Jets. The effort also was clearly lacking for the Jets from the first snap of the game.
Before you could blink your eyes, the Jets were down 14-0, and it was obvious that they were going to be blown out. Bowles was brought in after being the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. Even with a defensive-minded head coach, the Jets have one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
There once feared defensive line has been a huge disappointment, for the most part. In addition to the defensive line struggling, so has the secondary. At least once a game, you see the Jets secondary not having a clue who they are supposed to guard. Those mistakes go directly to the head coach, as the Jets look unprepared often. The Jets haven’t let their plans for the offseason be known, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Bowles gets fired after this disappointing season.
