Special Teams Grade: B

Special teams were rather pedestrian for both teams this week. There were no major turning points on special teams and both teams did their jobs. Randy Bullock was kicking for the Steelers this week, the first action he has had since the Giants used him Week 1 to replace Josh Brown when he was on suspension. Bullock made all his attempts this time, knocking through three field goals and one extra point.

It was a quiet game for Robbie Gould. He was able to make both of his extra points this time around but didn’t attempt a field goal. The Giants could have attempted at least two or three during the game but opted to go for it on fourth down multiple times.

The coverage teams for the Giants were solid as well. Sammie Coates and Antonio Brown each returned a kickoff, gaining 24 and 23 yards respectively. That is solid for two explosive playmakers. Punt coverage was good as well, as the Steelers didn’t actually return any of the four punts Brad Wing had.

Wing had four punts and averaged 44.3 yards per punt against his old team. He had one touchback with a long of 57 yards. The Giants punt return game was nonexistent today as Beckham Jr. didn’t receive any chances. Instead, it was Dwayne Harris, who had one yard on his lone attempt.

The Giants kick return game was unable to make much happen either. Harris averaged only 20 yards per return, while Bobby Rainey gained 38 yards on his lone return.
