Rushing Defense Grade: B+

Like the pass defense, the rushing defense was pretty good, but couldn’t get stops when they needed them. The Steelers just kept pounding away with Le’Veon Bell and eventually broke through.

The Steelers rode their workhorse back. He carried the ball 29 times and ran for 118 yards. That comes out to only 4.1 yards per carry, which isn’t as good as he normally performs but it got the job done this time. Bell showcased his patience and outstanding footwork as the Giants rarely tackled him for a loss and he would make something out of nothing.

This was the first time this season the Giants allowed a player to break the 100 yard mark against them. It was an impressive streak that they tried hard to keep in tact. Bell didn’t run all over them, as they made him earn his yards today. But, he produced enough to get the Steelers a run and keep the chains moving.

His longest run of the day was 19 yards, so the Giants were able to limit the big plays. Unfortunately, they were not able to create enough negative ones as they saw first hand how good of a running back Bell is. The Giants did force a fumble on Bell, which Eli Apple recovered to add to his best game of the season. It was an impressive feat for the Giants, as it was the first fumble Bell has lost since 2013 in his rookie season. It was only the second lost fumble of his career.
