New York Giants Team Grades vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Passing Offense Grade: F
This was a brutal game for the Giants passing offense. Eli Manning was never able to get going as early struggles from the offensive line gave him some happy feet in the pocket. He struggled with accuracy down the field and even lost his composure and yelled a referee when Odell Beckham Jr. did not get a flag on what looked like defensive pass interference. Manning showing that kind of emotion is out of character, much like his performance against the Steelers.
Manning had a backbreaking interception inside the 10-yard line that turned the tide of the game. Going in to take the lead in the second quarter, Manning targeted Larry Donnell and was intercepted by Lawrence Timmons, who returned the ball into Giants territory.
It crushed the momentum the Giants were building and set the tone for the remainder of the game. Beckham Jr. was the only saving grace with 10 receptions for 100 yards. Rashad Jennings and Sterling Shepard each caught touchdowns; Shepard was targeted eight times after the bizarre zero target game last week against the Cleveland Browns.
This week it was Victor Cruz phased out of the offense. He was not targeted all game, a peculiar game plan given how much the Giants struggled to move the ball; targeting Cruz underneath for some chunk gains could have opened this up a little bit.
Manning finished the game 24-of-39 for 195 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He was sacked twice and pressured numerous other occasions. He had a QBR of 16.9 and quarterback rating of 69.9; both horrific numbers.
