Special Teams Grade: C+

Special teams were a bit of a struggle for the Giants against the Bears. They excelled in some areas of special teams, but the negatives outweighed the positives. For starters, Robbie Gould found out just how tough it is to kick at MetLife Stadium when the winds are swirling.

Gould was able to knock through his 46-yard field goal attempt but missed two extra points. The field goal make was important, but the two extra point misses hurt. The veteran Gould should get a bit of a pass; those were his first misses of the season and it was an NFL record setting day for missed extra points. Connor Barth, who replaced Gould on the Bears, missed one field goal and extra point as well.

The Giants coverage teams struggled at times again as well. Deonte Thompson had a good afternoon returning kickoffs, averaging 29 yards per return with a high of 40 yards. Dwayne Harris was at least able to keep pace, averaging 28.3 yards on his three returns with a long of 46.

Brad Wing had another strong game punting. He was called upon six times and averaged 44.5 yards per punt. He had no touchbacks and two were placed inside the 20-yard line. Coverage was solid on punts as well, as Eddie Royal was held to only 12 yards on three attempts.

The Giants punt returns were just as anemic. Pat O’Donnell had a huge game punting for the Bears, constantly changing field position. He blasted a 67-yard punt and averaged 48.2 yards per punt. He also had two punts fall inside the 20 yard-line.
