New York Giants Team Grades vs Chicago Bears
Rushing Defense Grade: A
The Giants rushing defense has been stout throughout the season and that continued against the Bears. Rookie Jordan Howard has had a strong season but the Giants were able to slow him down on the afternoon.
Howard’s stats look pretty good, has he had 77 yards on 17 carries, good for 4.5 yards per carry. But, a large chunk of that came on one run in the first half when Howard ripped off a 27-yard gain. If you take that out, he managed only 50 yards on 16 carries, equaling underwhelming 3.1 yards per carry.
Jeremy Langford, who was originally the starter before getting hurt, found no success on the ground. He managed only eight yards on six carries, but he did pound one in from the goal line. It was the ninth rushing touchdown the Giants allowed this season.
The Giants were constantly in the Bears backfield. They racked up seven tackles for loss, with Olivier Vernon leading the way with two. He made an impressive tackle on an outside run in the second half that resulted in a seven-yard loss, stalling another Bears drive.
The Giants defensive line has remained stout against the run. They are also getting great support from the levels behind them, as they have linebackers, safeties, and cornerbacks that excel mixing it up in the running game.
