New York Giants Team Grades vs Chicago Bears
Pass Defense Grade: B
This grade is a B because it was a tale of two halves for the Giants. In the first half, they were methodically picked apart by Jay Cutler. He found tight end Zach Miller for chunk gains over the middle of the field, including a 19-yard laser on the opening drive.
The Giants found little success in the first half stopping the passing game and would have received an F. Cutler looked comfortable in the pocket, finding his running backs with success as well. The teams went into the locker room for halftime and the Giants came out looking like a different team.
The pass defense for the Giants in the second half would be an A. They began pressuring Cutler, who looked more like the turnover-prone gunslinger we have seen in the past. Cutler tried to lead his team to a comeback but threw a game-ending interception to Landon Collins, the fifth interception for him on the season. Cutler was sacked four times and hit another six. The Giants also had seven passes deflected, with Collins leading the way with three.
The Giants held the Bears scoreless in the second half in large part because they shot down Cutler and the passing game. Miller was forced from the game in the first half with a broken foot and the Bears never looked the same.
Cutler finished the game 17-for-30 for 252 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Giants were able to corral him after the first half and stall the Bears offense. Jason Pierre-Paul led the pass rush with 2.5 sacks on the afternoon.
