New York Giants Team Grades vs Chicago Bears
Passing Offense Grade: B+
The weather conditions weren’t great at MetLife Stadium, making for a difficult afternoon for putting the ball in the air. Eli Manning had a couple of hiccups but was once again solid more often than not.
He finished the game 21-of-36 for 227 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception on the afternoon, but that has more to do with the Bears inability to make a play. Manning gave them a couple of chances for an interception, but they were unable to finish it off.
Sterling Shepard led the way for the Giants receivers. He had five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown as Manning targeted him a team-high 11 times. Manning has growing confidence in Shepard, going to him even if he makes a drop. Odell Beckham Jr. had a quiet afternoon, catching five passes for 46 yards. Victor Cruz returned from injury and made the most of his one reception, a long 48-yard catch-and-run up the sideline.
Rashad Jennings was also a factor in the passing game today. He converted a fourth down on a blitz from the Bears and fought for extra yardage all afternoon. He finished with five receptions for 44 yards. Will Tye caught Manning’s other touchdown.
Manning was able to avoid disaster on a couple of occasions, but this was far from his cleanest game. It was encouraging to see him not take a sack, but the Bears were able to generate some pressure and hit Manning four times, rushing some throws.
