If the Yankees are looking to add a designated hitter this offseason, veteran Mike Napoli would be an excellent player to target. Even though he is 35-years-old, Napoli is coming off a great season with the Cleveland Indians. On the Indians run to the World Series last season, Napoli played a big part in it, as he was a bonafide power hitter in the middle of their order.

In 2016, Napoli totaled 34 home runs, 101 RBIs, a .239 batting average, and a .335 on-base percentage. Due to the Yankees wanting to move forward with their youth movement, Napoli would be a good choice for the Yankees, as he wouldn’t demand a long-term deal like some other free agents.

Napoli wouldn’t provide the Yankees with  much in the field, but he is capable of playing some first base. Many expect that Greg Bird will be the starting first baseman for the Yankees next season, but having a right-handed backup to him would be a good move for the Yankees to create a platoon.

The Yankees seem to desire a right-handed power hitter in their lineup for next season, and Napoli certainly fits the bill. A one or two-year deal would likely get the job done if Napoli is their man.
