Can Point Guards Ride The Momentum

The Knicks overhauled their backcourt from last season. The two biggest names to come in the change were at point guard. The Knicks traded for former MVP Derrick Rose and then signed Brandon Jennings in free agency.

Both players had their career trajectories drastically altered by injuries in recent seasons. Rose’s knee injuries have been well documented, while Jennings ruptured his Achilles two seasons ago. Both are looking to prove people wrong with the Knicks and are beginning to look more comfortable.

Both players had strong games in the Knicks’ last game. The Knicks overall didn’t show up but their point guards certainly brought it. Rose had by far his best offensive game of the season. He scored 27 points, including three makes from the three-point line. He has shown explosiveness at times this season, even getting a dunk on a fast break.

Jennings recorded a double-double off the bench. He had 17 points with 10 assists in 24 minutes. Both put pressure on opposing defenses with their ability to get into the paint and create for their teammates or themselves.

The Hawks only have one true point guard on the roster in Dennis Schroder so it is an area the Knicks should look to take advantage of, especially when they go to their bench.
