New York Giants Midseason Grades By Position
Tight Ends: C
This position has been a letdown for the Giants. They don’t have a stud that does everything like when they had Martellus Bennett, but they thought they had a solid collection of players. Larry Donnell and Will Tye have both shown flashes previously and the Giants hoped they would bring it again this season.
That, unfortunately, hasn’t been the case. Donnell has severely regressed. He does not look to be a part of the Giants gameplan going forward any longer. He has only 15 receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown on the season.
Tye hasn’t fared much better, catching 22 passes for 182 yards and zero touchdowns. He looks to be a part of things going forward because he has shown more as a blocker, but he has taken a step back after providing surprise production out of nowhere last season.
The lack of blocking from the tight end position has been a sore spot for the Giants this season. It is a big reason the running game has never gotten going. Expect to see rookie sixth-round pick Jerell Adams get more opportunities as the season goes on.
He had three receptions last week and should continue to be worked in. He is a natural athlete as a pass catcher and improving blocker. It would not be a shock to see him take over as the starter by the end of the season.
