The Brooklyn Nets lost at home for the second consecutive time as the Charlotte Hornets picked up the road victory.

170. Final. 95. 147. 99

The Brooklyn Nets lost a tough game to the Charlotte Hornets Friday night. The Nets controlled the game for most of the first half but were unable to put the Hornets away. They clawed their way back as the game wore on and eventually pulled out the victory at the end.

Kemba Walker helped keep his team in the game with a big scoring first half. Walker scored 15 in the first two-quarters to lead the Hornets and keep them within striking distance. It was unsurprising to see him have a big game as he took full advantage of rookie Isaiah Whitehead.

Whitehead drew the start tonight with Jeremy Lin sidelined with a hamstring injury. Lin is expected to miss about two weeks, so this is a good opportunity for Whitehead to carve out a role for himself.

In addition to Lin being sidelined, the Nets were without Randy Foye and Greivis Vasquez. Those are the top three point guards on the Nets’ depth chart so point guard duties fell upon Whitehead and Sean Kilpatrick.

More from Brooklyn Nets

It was a mixed bag offensively on the night for the Nets. They had a high assist percentage, handing out 20 assists on 35 shots made. But, they shot only 40.2 percent on the night and 25 percent from the three-point line.

It was a defensive-minded game, as the Nets held the Hornets to 41.9 percent shooting on the evening and 33.3 percent from deep. The Nets were competative against the Hornets, but Charlotte looks like one of the better teams in the NBA currently. The victory puts them at 4-1 on the season and 3-0 on the road, while the Nets fall to 2-4 on the season and 2-2 at Barclays Center.

Three Stars

PG Kemba Walker, Hornets — Walker led the way tonight in the scoring department. He had a game-high 30 points on 11-of-22 from the field, going 3-of-8 from deep and 5-of-8 from the foul line. He also added six rebounds but had only one assist.

PF Trevor Booker, Nets — Booker brings a lot of energy to the game and has been a pleasant surprise thus far this season. Tonight he registered his third double-double on the season, scoring 12 points with 13 rebounds. Four of the rebounds were of the offensive variety, as Booker also added one assist, one steal, and two blocks.

G Sean Kilpatrick, Nets — Kilpatrick has seen his role increase with all of the injuries and has made the most of it. Kilpatrick had another strong night off the bench, scoring 19 points. He added four rebounds and four assists with two steals. He had an off night from the field going 5-of-15, but was relentless attacking as he attempted 10 free throws, making seven.
