The Brooklyn Nets picked up a near wire-to-wire victory over the Detroit Pistons at Barclays Center Wednesday night.

147. 101. 64. Final. 109

The Brooklyn Nets sent the fans at the Barclays Center home happy Wednesday night with a victory over the Detroit Pistons. With the win, the Nets record moves to 2-3 on the season and 2-1 at home. The Pistons fall to 3-2, losing both of their games away from the Palace of Auburn Hills.

It was a gutsy effort by the Nets, who came into the game battling injuries and lost some more players along the way. Randy Foye and Greivis Vasquez both missed the game because of hamstring and ankle injuries. Jeremy Lin injured his hamstring in the first half and was unable to return to the game.

The Nets were forced to rely on other players as a result and they responded. Sean Kilpatrick, Joe Harris and Isaiah Whitehead were pressed into larger roles and played well. They gave the Nets just what they needed with so many backcourt players getting injured.

More from Brooklyn Nets

It was slightly concerning that, after scoring 71 points in the first half, the Nets were held to only 38 in the second half. Without Lin running the show the Nets looked a little out of sorts, but they had built a big enough lead in the first half that the Pistons were unable to come back.

The Nets were also able to limit the impact of Andre Drummond. Drummond is a dominant force in the middle but the Nets were able to contain him tonight. He came into the game averaging 14.3 points and 15.5 rebounds; he managed only six and six against the Nets.

It was a big factor for the Nets picking up the victory, as they were able to neutralize the Pistons biggest difference maker.

Three Stars

C Brook Lopez, Nets — Lopez had a monster game for the Nets. With Lin sidelined, he carried the load offensively. In 29 minute Lopez scored 34 points with 11 rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal. The points came from all over the court, as he knocked down four three-pointers as well.

G Sean Kilpatrick, Nets — With Lin getting hurt and the other guards already sitting, Kilpatrick was forced to log heavy minutes. He responded with a strong game, registering a double-double. He scored 24 points on 8-of-13 from the field, making all four of his three-point attempts and all four free throws, and adding 10 rebounds. He also handed out three assists with two steals.

F Marcus Morris, Pistons — Morris has had a strong start to the season and it continued against the Nets. He scored 23 points with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. The 23 points were tied for the team lead with Long Island native Tobias Harris.
