New York Jets: Five Takeaways From Win vs Cleveland Browns
By Nick Ziegler
– Mediocre Fitzpatrick
It was another very mediocre showing for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the win against the Browns. Much of the reason why the Jets were trailing by 13 points at halftime was because of the awful first half from Fitzpatrick.
In the second half, Fitzpatrick did improve a bit, but there were multiple throws that the Browns could have intercepted, but didn’t. Similarly to last season, Fitzpatrick caught some breaks on throws that probably shouldn’t have been made. Against teams like the Browns, he can get away with those.
On Sunday, Fitzpatrick totaled 228 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and a 79.0 quarterback rating. Due to him completing just 16 of 34 passes, his quarterback rating once again was poor. To his credit, Fitzpatrick did play better in the second half, but he should have done much better against a poor Browns’ defense.
There was a moment during the game when it looked like Bryce Petty was going to be coming in for Fitzpatrick. After a big collision on the sideline, Fitzpatrick went to the sideline and talked to the doctors quickly before returning to the game without missing a snap.
Some fans have been wanting to see what Petty can do, and the Jets outspoken former quarterback Joe Namath is one of them.
For the time being, it will continue to be Fitzpatrick under center for the Jets. He might not be playing all that well, but the Jets have been able to win two straight games.
