Knicks Finish 47-35

Here’s the most important prediction. It’s a bottom-line business. At the end of the day, the individual statistics don’t matter. Wins and losses determine playoff spots.

After a three-year postseason hiatus, New York will return to the playoffs under Hornacek and a revamped roster.

Let’s not go overboard and expect 50 or more wins right away. Remember, LeBron James, at the height of his career, packed his bags and went to South Beach to form the Miami Heat’s Big 3 with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh who were under the age of 30 during the 2010-11 season. The trio and a group of role players won 58 games in a weaker Eastern Conference.

At 31 coming off multiple injuries, Noah isn’t at the height of his career. Reports have chronicled Rose’s extensive injury history. Yes, he’s 28, but his body has aged far past his biological count on this planet. Both players will miss games for maintenance at some point.

Anthony’s overall healthy track record and Porzingis’ development offset the uncertainty surrounding durability issues at other positions. The Knicks’ bench assets, Jennings and Lance Thomas, will also serve as decent fill-ins within the starting lineup. Don’t forget shooting guard Courtney Lee, who’s been an iron man throughout his eight-year career.

The Knicks have question marks regarding chemistry with three new starters and several rookies coming off the bench, which will cause some growing pains under a new coach.

Nonetheless, based on pure talent alone, this team should come very close to 50 wins in the upcoming season. Expect, Hornacek to plan rest days if the Knicks position themselves for a playoff spot early April. New York has more important goals than racking up 50 wins. They’re pushing for a late playoff run, potentially an Eastern Conference showdown with their opponent on opening night.
