New York Knicks: 6 Predictions for the 2016-17 Season
Carmelo Anthony Logs Career-High in Assists
During the previous season, forward Carmelo Anthony logged a career-high in assists per game (4.2) and total assists (299). It’s an overlooked feat that many ignore after bashing the star forward for his selfishness with the basketball.
How many times have we heard about Anthony slowing down ball movement once he establishes possession? With a less talented team, he proved his game could adjust to budding talent on the roster.
This year, he’ll share the floor with forward Kristaps Porzingis who will be a year better and new teammate, Derrick Rose. Of course, the former Chicago Bulls point guard will initiate the offense, which means Anthony won’t walk the ball past half-court as much as the previous season.
Nonetheless, more talented scorers will equate to elevated confidence in sharing the basketball and not forcing contested shots on off nights. Jackson provided Anthony with the most talented supporting cast in his career with last year’s draft pick on the rise and Rose joining the crew.
As the Knicks’ best shooter, he remains the No. 1 option in critical moments and the undisputed leader on and off the court, but he’s finally able to trust two high-quality teammates to execute on the offensive end. Expect a number closer to five assists per game for the star forward.
