Coaching Staff Grade: B+

The Giants came away with the victory, which is the most important thing. Ben McAdoo is now 2-0 in his NFL head coaching career, winning by a combined four points. It is encouraging that the Giants have finished off games this season, as that was as big a reason as any for having such a poor 2015.

There was nothing the Giants coaching staff really did poorly against the Saints, as they had their guys ready to play. The defense was outstanding and the special teams came up with the only touchdown of the game.

The only thing that was discouraging was the offense in the red zone. The Giants were unable to score a touchdown on offense despite numerous opportunities. Their second drive they were stopped on fourth down inside the five-yard line, while Vereen and Cruz fumbled on the Saints’ side of the field.

The coaching staff cannot control turnovers, but the play calling was suspect inside the red zone. It was an area the Giants struggled last season and against the Saints, it happened again. Jennings wasn’t given any carries inside the 10-yard line, with Vereen receiving four.

That is a peculiar decision, as Vereen excels as a pass catcher and in space; having him work between the tackles makes little sense given his size and role in the offense. It was a head-scratching decision, but it didn’t come back to haunt the Giants as they were able to still pick up the win despite their red zone woes.
