– Strong run defense

When a team is going against Rex Ryan, they have to be prepared for the run. When Ryan was on the Jets, they were frequently one of the best rushing teams in the NFL. Last season, the Bills’ offense was certainly based around running the football effectively.

In their loss on Thursday night, the Bills were never able to get going on the ground. Running back LeSean McCoy totaled 59 rushing yards on 15 carries. One of those rushes went for 24 yards, which was a good chunk of the damage he caused.

On a crucial 4th and short, the Jets run defense stood tall against McCoy. A great individual effort by Sheldon Richardson on the play stopped McCoy for no gain and helped the Jets maintain their lead.

The Jets’ defense also did a very nice job keeping Tyrod Taylor from hurting them too much on the ground. The Bills’ mobile quarterback only ran the ball two times for 25 rushing yards in the loss. After the seven-sack game against the Bengals, the Jets were unable to sack Taylor, but the run defense looked great led by the defensive line.
