One of the big surprises in Week 1 was how little that Bilal Powell was involved in the offense. However, when Matt Forte was playing as well as he did throughout the game, it was understandable for the Jets to utilize him as much as they could. Due to touching the ball nearly 30 times on the ground and through the air, Forte simply can’t handle a huge workload on the short week.

Due to Forte likely being limited to a degree, expect to see Powell more involved in the offense than we saw in Week 1. Last season, Powell really emerged as a valuable weapon for the Jets in the second half of the season.

Like Forte, Powell can contribute in both the running and the passing game. We did see that the Jets are going to be willing to throw to running backs in Week 1, but most of them were just to Forte.

Even though he isn’t injured, Forte has to be banged up on a short week from all of the touches. Powell should be able to come in relief of Forte in more situations on Thursday night to avoid him getting burnt out.
