The Jets came into Week 1 a little thin on the defensive line without Sheldon Richardson, but that didn’t slow down the pass-rush at all. The combination of Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams looked excellent against the Bengals.

In Wilkerson’s first game back against the New York Giants in the preseason, we saw the Jets’ defensive line look really impressive. Against the Bengals, it was more of the same. In the loss, Wilkerson was able to total 1.5 sacks and seven tackles. The decision to give Wilkerson a new contract made Jets fans very happy, and he is living up to it so far.

While Wilkerson had a great afternoon, it was Williams who really stole the show. Coming into the season, many believe that Williams is going to become a star this season, and it certainly appears so. Against the Bengals, Williams totaled 2.5 sacks, which is just 0.5 sacks away from matching his total for all of last season.

Richardson will be back for the Jets on Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills, and Tyrod Taylor better watch out.
