team. 29. . . . San Antonio Spurs. 3

It’s never smart to doubt head coach Gregg Popovich, especially with an upgrade over Tim Duncan at the center position. Despite a great career, the Big Fundamental didn’t have much left last season, hence his retirement.

The San Antonio Spurs acquired Pau Gasol via free agency. He’s 36-years-old but played on an All-Star level for the past two seasons. More importantly, the 16-year pro plays the game above the shoulders, with above average basketball IQ, which makes him a perfect fit in Popovich’s system.

Other than the upgrade in the middle, the Spurs roster nucleus remains consistent with past years minus Boris Diaw. As Tony Parker’s and Manu Ginobili’s careers head into the sunset, the onus will fall upon Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge to carry San Antonio through a deep postseason run.

The Spurs have clinched a postseason berth every year since the 1997-98 season, the streak will continue with yet another Southwest Division title.
