No. 12: Detroit Pistons

Despite losing four straight, the Detroit Pistons battled the Cleveland Cavaliers to the bitter end in the first round of the 2016 playoffs. Point guard Reggie Jackson will continue his development as the floor general within Stan Van Gundy’s system.

Since his split from twin brother Markieff, Marcus Morris improved his scoring consistency. Though young, Stanley Johnson seems primed for a sophomore surge in a position battle at the 3-spot. If healthy, Tobias Harris adds the icing on the cake for another postseason run in Detroit.

No. 11: New York Knicks

Rose’s desire to cash in on the open market will help fuel the Knicks to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Noah debuts in good shape, Porzingis takes another step, and Anthony won’t forget how to score on all levels.

Nonetheless, Rose’s ability to draw defenders helps open the court for the offense. He’s not going to revert to his MVP years, but he’ll provide enough to space head coach Jeff Hornacek’s offense. Let’s not go overboard on the ranking, it’s still a new system installment with three new starters.

Jackson hit big with Porzingis, and most people booed the selection on draft day. He gets the benefit of the doubt in the Rose trade deal.
