– Forte makes a vow

One of the biggest concerns for the Jets so far this summer has been the hamstring of running back Matt Forte. After losing Chris Ivory to the Jaguars in free agency, the Jets signed Forte from the Bears to help replace Ivory’s production.

Forte is a different type of running back than Ivory was for the Jets. He should be able to bring a more dynamic player out of  the backfield for the passing attack. Fitzpatrick isn’t credited with having a very strong arm, and check down passes to Forte would be a great weapon for the Jets.

Despite barely practicing for the Jets, Forte said that he is feeling good and that the team is being careful.

“I’m feeling good,” Forte said to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. “I’m just progressing week by week. I’ll be out there soon. I do individual drills, and then I do a lot of conditioning stuff, to get back into football shape.”

“This is the most patience I’ve had to have with an injury,” he said to Slater. “They’ve had to hold me back. A lot of times, they have to protect me from myself.”

Hamstring injuries are very tricky things to deal with for a player and an organization. With Forte being a veteran running back now, there is no need to rush him back to get him into practice. We might not see Forte in any preseason games this season, but he should be ready for the regular season.
