New York Jets: Latest Buzz at Camp

– Roster move
One of the injuries that has plagued the Jets was the hamstring of Bernard Pierce. The Jets signed Pierce this offseason after they cut running back Zac Stacy. Pierce was placed on injured reserve, and the Jets brought in running back Antone Smith. It is unfortunate news for Pierce, who was trying to make the team in 2016 after having some down seasons since 2012.
For Smith, he now has the opportunity to fight for a spot on the Jets. Despite being 30-years-old, Smith has only totaled 30 carries in the NFL. His best two seasons came with the Atlanta Falcons in 2013 and 2014, but he didn’t total over 200 rushing yards in either year.
Even though there is virtually no chance for Smith to make the team, he will likely get playing time against the Redskins. With Matt Forte and Khiry Robinson injured, the Jets are rather thin at running back. Bilal Powell will likely be the starter against Washington, but don’t expect to see much of him in the backfield.
