Sunday, December 25th vs. Boston Celtics

The Knicks have played the most games of any team in the NBA on Christmas day, playing on the holiday 50 times. The results have not been great, as they have a 22-28 record, both record amounts for an NBA team. The most recent appearance for the Knicks was a loss in 2014 to the Washington Wizards, which was one of a franchise-record setting 62 losses that season.

The Knicks also own another dubious record on Christmas Day, which occurred in 2013 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. They lost that game 123-94, suffering the worst home defeat in the history of the NBA on Christmas Day. That is probably why they have been absent from playing that day the last two seasons, as they have not played very good basketball.

But, expectations are higher this season, and the Knicks will be back in the Christmas Day spotlight. They will kick things off against the Celtics at noon, followed by the Cavalier and Warriors at 2:30 PM ET, Bulls vs. San Antonio Spurs at 5:30 PM ET, Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Thunder at 8:00 PM ET and Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers at 10:30 PM ET.

This will be the second matchup of the season between the Knicks and Celtics out of four meetings for the season. It is an important series of games for the Knicks, as they look to move up the ranks in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division. If they want to do that, beating the Celtics would help immensely.

The Celtics added an All-Star of their own to their young core, as they signed Al Horford away from the Atlanta Hawks. Along with Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics now have a strong one-two punch with him and Horford, as they have an extremely deep roster around them as well.

These should be fun games to watch between the Knicks and Celtics, as the two teams played close games last season despite the Celtics being the clearly superior squad. Will that change this season? We will have to wait until the regular season gets underway to find out.
