Boston Celtics: No. 5

Since taking over as the head coach for the Celtics, Brad Stevens has done the most with less talent. He’s improved the team’s record in every season.

The former Butler coach took over a 25-win team in 2013 and finished the 2015-16 season with the fifth-seeded squad in the postseason. Point guard Isaiah Thomas lists as the only All-Star player to suit up for Stevens during his tenure in Boston. Guard Rajon Rondo played two seasons under the current regime, but he didn’t perform at an All-Star level in either year.

Despite hoarding draft picks, the Celtics only made one splashy offseason move via free agency. The front office added Horford to the frontcourt, which adds a boost to the average talent on the roster but not enough to challenge for the Atlantic Division title.

With draft picks stocked in the safe, Boston will likely push hard for a deal at or before the trade deadline. With the current roster, it’s still a middling team in an improved conference.
