Recent New York Yankees rumors have the team close to deciding if they want to trade away relief pitchers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller.

New York Yankees rumors are really beginning to heat up as the MLB Trade Deadline is a week away. While the Yankees haven’t made it clear whether they will be sellers or buyers in the coming days, we have finally gotten some clarity on what they plan to do with their biggest trade chips; left-handed relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller.

The two have been the topic of discussion for weeks as they are two of the biggest names that could potentially be had at the trade deadline. They could have a big impact on the playoff races as well, as both are shutdown options any contending team could use at the end of games.

While the Yankees could have the same use for them, they do not look destined for a playoff spot this season despite their recent surge. As a result, the Yankees trading the free agent to be Chapman makes a ton of sense. Trading away Miller, who has two years left on his deal for a very fair price would require a haul, and rightfully so.

But, it does not seem like the Yankees will be entertaining offers for Miller, and have already made up their minds about what they are going to do with Chapman. According to Ken Rosenthal of MLB Network and Fox Sports, the Yankees are close to dealing Chapman, but will be retaining Miller.

Rosenthal cautions that a deal is not necessarily imminent, but the Yankees are ready to bring an end to the Chapman saga and telling teams that they are close to a deal.

This is big news for basically every team in the major leagues, as the Yankees can dictate a lot that happens in the coming days. With so many potential pieces to move, including Carlos Beltran, the Yankees could have a big impact on the playoff race without actually being in it.

There have been a number of teams that have been connected to Chapman, including the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians. All three teams could use a hard throwing lefty at the end of games, and Chapman could fill that role.

With so many contending teams in the running for Chapman, the Yankees should be able to maximize the package that they get in return. Young, controllable pitchers or position players that are nearly MLB-ready are what the Yankees are seeking.

Luckily for them, the three teams mentioned above have plenty of what the Yankees are looking for. It sounds like it is only a matter of time until the Yankees make a deal, but expect them to exhaust all their options before settling on a deal in the next seven days.
