Another one of the Islanders’ promising young players is 24-year-old Brock Nelson. Nelson has played nearly three full seasons for the Islanders now, and he has been a pretty effective scorer for the organization in those three seasons. In his career, Nelson has totaled 108 points in 235 games with an average of 20 goals per season.

Last season, Nelson didn’t necessarily make the jump that the Islanders would have liked to see in his third season, as he totaled 40 points, which was two fewer than what he totaled in the 14-15 season. Even though Nelson didn’t total as many points, he did set a career-high in goals last season with 26.

The 26 goals scored by Nelson was actually the second-most on the team last season, and he was also fifth in total points. With Okposo and Nielsen gone, the Islanders will be expecting a bit more on offense from Nelson, and he should be able to reach the new goals set for him. After scoring 26 goals last season, Nelson might be poised for a 30-goal season, which would be a very impressive feat.

Entering his fourth season, Nelson might be poised to be a breakout star as one of the best goal-scorers on the team.
