New York Yankees Rumors: Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is drawing interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates as they look to reshape their own rotation.

New York Yankees rumors are beginning to really pick up as the MLB Trade Deadline approaches. As the Yankees fall further in the standings, they are getting closer and closer to becoming sellers at the deadline. While it is something they are not used to doing, it is something they should embrace, at least for this season, as they have a number of players that should fetch decent hauls in return.

One of those players is starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi has struggled this season, and was recently moved to the bullpen, but is still someone that should generate some interest around the league.

As a hard throwing, 26-year old, Eovaldi should have a market as many teams think they have the coaching staff to get him back on track. Also, he has shown this season that he can get the job done, despite what his 7-6 record and 5.11 ERA may say. In May, Eovaldi was undefeated with a 5-0 record in six starts with an ERA of 3.25.

One of the teams that are looking into acquiring Eovaldi from the Yankees is the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates have had their own struggles with their starting rotation, as they just recently demoted Jon Niese to the bullpen. As a result, they are in the market for Eovaldi according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Pirates starting rotation has been a disappointment this season, as the best ERA for qualifying pitchers on the staff is 5.11 by Francisco Liriano. Gerrit Cole is the only starting pitcher with an ERA under 3.00 at 2.77, but he has been sidelined since June 10th. He made his return last night against the Washington Nationals, but he can still use some help.

The Pirates have a ton of prospects that could help for the stretch run, but would probably like to add some veteran insurance as well. Relying on youngster such as Tyler Glasnow, Chad Kuhl or Jameson Taillon could be a mistake, which is why they are in the market for someone such as Eovaldi.

If the Pirates are to acquire Eovaldi from the Yankees, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review believes they would have to depart with one of their younger pitchers that are under team control for the foreseeable future, which is what the Yankees were looking over over the offseason in trades.

Some names that they name are Kuhl, Trevor Williams and Steven Brault. All three would be solid additions for the Yankees, as none of them are close to becoming free agents, or even hitting arbitration; the three have combined to make four career appearances in the major leagues.
