– Michael Conforto

There were some high expectations for Michael Conforto coming into this season after he burst onto the scene in the second half of 2015. Conforto started off the season as one of the best hitters in baseball, and the Mets offense looked great with him and Cespedes in the middle of the lineup.

In April, Conforto totaled a .365 batting average, four home runs, 11 doubles, and 18 RBIs. It certainly looked like Conforto was off to an All-Star season, but he fell off terribly in May and June. In both of those months, Conforto totaled a batting average below .200, which led to his eventual demotion to the minors.

Conforto was also playing through a minor wrist injury which certainly didn’t help him at the plate. The Mets will certainly hope that Conforto is able to figure some things out in the minors and return to the majors in the second half of the season. As shown in April, Conforto is able to be a middle of the order hitter, and that is something that the Mets are going to be in need of for the rest of  the season.

Time will tell whether or not Conforto is able to have an impact for the Mets this season, but if not, they do have some solid options in the outfield already.
