– Antonio Bastardo

Overall, the Mets’ bullpen has been much better this season compared to last, as they have had a few players that were injured last season come back healthy and perform this year so far. Knowing that the bullpen needed to be addressed this offseason, the Mets signed Antonio Bastardo with the hope of him being one of their go-to guys late in the game.

Last season, Bastardo was really good for the Pittsburgh Pirates, as he totaled a 4-1 record, 2.98 ERA, and 1.13 WHIP. So far this season, Bastardo hasn’t been close to the pitcher he was with the Pirates last season, as Terry Collins doesn’t have any confidence to use him in a late-inning situation.

This season, Bastardo has totaled a 4.91 ERA and has allowed seven home runs already this season which is more than he allowed in all of 2015. The Mets could certainly use Bastardo to turn it around in the second half of the season, as having two lefties in the bullpen with him and Jerry Blevins would come in handy against teams with talented left-handed hitters like the Nationals. If Bastardo can figure things out in the second half, the Mets might not entertain the idea of adding help in their bullpen before the trade deadline.
