J.P Tokoto Deserves A Shot

The uber athletic wing player showed off that athleticism multiple times during Summer League. He had a couple of highlight reel dunks, including an alley-oop from Baker that was a lot of fun to watch.

Tokoto would show previously in the games that he could fly, as he threw down another impressive dunk in the open court against the Miami Heat.

That is enough to garner some attention, as the dunks are eye catching. That athleticism is what makes Tokoto a solid defender as well. Standing 6-feet-6 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Tokoto has the size to go along with his athleticism to be disruptive on that end of the court.

He averaged two steals a game during the Summer League to go with 10.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. At only 22 years old, Tokoto has potential to blossom into a solid rotation player, as he already can produce on the defensive end of the court.

Offensively he could still use some work though. He shot only 40 percent from the field in five games, as he still struggles with his jump shot. He made only 28.6 percent from deep and 61.9 percent from the foul line, so there is work to be done with his jump shot. But, if he could get a consistent jumper, he should have no problem finding a spot on an NBA roster.

We have seen what defensive minded players can turn into if they can get a jump shot, as the Knicks saw it first hand with Lance Thomas. Tokoto has a ways to go before he is Thomas, but he deserves a look at training camp and is someone the Knicks should stash in the D-League and continue developing.
