New York Yankees Rumors: While the Yankees haven’t given away their intentions at the MLB Trade Deadline, it looks like they are preparing to be sellers.
New York Yankees rumors are going to begin picking up as the All-Star break approaches and the MLB Trade Deadline will not be far behind. The Yankees have yet to show their hand leading up to the trade deadline, but the smart decision will be to be sellers and starting putting the attention to the 2017 season.
It is not just the Yankees being quiet in the media, other executives of teams do not know the Yankees intentions, as owner Hal Steinbrenner has not been very clear about what the team intends to do.
The Yankees have said they are not yet ready to make a deal, which has held true; they have yet to make any trades. The Yankees have also said that they will not deal someone like Andrew Miller, but that may not be the whole truth.
According to ESPN MLB Insider Buster Olney, the Yankees have in fact began engaging in trades. According to fellow evaluators, the Yankees are currently fielding offers from other teams for Aroldis Chapman and Miller right now.
This will give the team a chance to execute trades in the coming days quickly if the front office indeed chooses to, as they will already have offers in their hand and the framework of deals done. It makes sense for the Yankees, who look to be going nowhere fast this season.
The Yankees have struggled throughout all of 2016, as they have been unable to perform consistently on the field. They currently have a record of 41-43, sitting eight games out of first place in the American League East, and five games out of a Wild Card space.
While that will give some people hope that the Yankees can turn things around and sneak into a postseason spot, the Yankees should resist that urge and start focusing on the future. They have done nothing recently to show that they are capable of making such a run, as they have only won series against the Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins since June 1st.

That is not encouraging, as the Yankees just cannot beat good or even average teams with any consistency. Because of that, the Yankees should become sellers and begin strengthening their farm system and brightening their future.
That could be the course of action the Yankees eventually take, as Olney said the Yankees are not only fielding offers for Chapman and Miller. In addition to two-third of their three-headed bullpen monster, the Yankees are prepared to take offers for catcher Brian McCann, outfielders Brett Gardner and All-Star Carlos Beltran and starting pitchers Michael Pineda, Ivan Nova and Nathan Eovaldi.
Olney also added that one rival evaluator said that his team made an aggressive proposal for one of the Yankees’ late game arms and came away with the feeling that the Yankees are genuinely serious about considering their proposal.
This will be something that Yankees fans, and anyone that is a fan of baseball, will not be used to seeing. The Yankees are usually in the middle of all the trade discussions, but as aggressive buyers looking to strengthen the team to make a postseason run.

The Yankees could still have an impact on the postseason race, but it will be because they are sellers at the trade deadline. They have a lot of players that could tip the scales in either league, and should maximize this opportunity as it could get them back into the playoff picture sooner than later if they can make the most of their trade able assets they currently have.
