Losing Kristaps Porzingis

Let’s go over a casual caveat in the previous slide. The Thunder won’t just let the Knicks have Westbrook, their best player, for scraps and players on the decline.

Oklahoma City would obviously want the best deal possible, which likely means acquiring young players with high potential for the future. Porzingis is the only player who fits into that category for the Knicks.

Do you think Thunder president Sam Presti wants Rose’s old knees? How about Noah at 31?

Assuming Noah signs with the Knicks for the reported fully guaranteed four-year deal, per Michael Scotto of the Associated Press, Oklahoma City would be stuck with a veteran on the decline in addition to the young centers on their roster.

Keep in mind, the Thunder traded Serge Ibaka and acquired rookie Domantas Sabonis. They already have Steven Adams in the starting lineup. Why acquire a veteran center?

As you already know, Anthony has a no-trade clause in his contract. He’s going nowhere. The Thunder would only see interest in Porzingis, and he’s the Knicks’ future. There’s no reason to give up a budding 7’3” talent who can play inside and outside for a one-year rental.
