Position: Strong-Side Linebacker

Projected Favorite: Jordan Jenkins

The Jets decided to add youth to the linebacker corps. The front office selected Jordan Jenkins in the third round to spruce up the resistance on the edge.

Fellow Georgia Bulldog and current Chicago Bears linebacker Leonard Floyd overshadowed Jenkins’ contributions coming into the draft. The Jets’ rookie logged 19 sacks and 39 tackles for a loss in four seasons as a collegian.

With New York, Jenkins has practiced with the first-team in an open competition, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. He’s not competing against experienced veterans for the spot. The coaching staff has already thrown him into the fray as a starter, and it’s not going to change once training camp starts on July 27.

With defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson’s pending contractual issues, Sheldon Richardson should play most of his snaps on the defensive line. Third-year pro Trevor Reilly hasn’t shown much impact in his two years with the club. He’s going to remain a backup behind Jenkins for the upcoming season.
