New York Jets: Six Veteran Quarterbacks to Replace Ryan Fitzpatrick
By Nick Ziegler
– Josh McCown
The Cleveland Browns are hoping to turn things around in 2016 after years of losing and they will likely be going with Robert Griffin III as their starting quarterback. After parting ways with Johnny Manziel this offseason, the Browns hope that Griffin will be able to bounce back to his form that we saw in his rookie season.
In addition to Manziel starting games for the Browns last season, they also had veteran Josh McCown start in eight games. McCown totaled a 1-7 record as a starter in 2015, but his statistics weren’t all that bad. Last season, McCown totaled 2,109 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

McCown also totaled some very good stats in 2013 with the Chicago Bears, as he had 13 touchdown passes to just one interception that season. If Griffin is the starter in Cleveland like many expect, we could see McCown become available to be acquired by a trade. With 13 seasons as an NFL quarterback on his resume, McCown would be a great option for the Jets to help the young quarterbacks grow, and also to possibly be a good option as a starter.
While adding a veteran is important, the Jets should be planning to add a quarterback that can step in for Smith if he struggles once again as a starter, and that would be McCown.
