New York Jets: Six Veteran Quarterbacks to Replace Ryan Fitzpatrick
By Nick Ziegler
– T.J. Yates
T.J. Yates might not be an old quarterback, but at 29-years-old, he has a good amount of experience under his belt. Yates was drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Texans in 2011 NFL Draft.
In his rookie season, Yates was thrown into the action by the Texans, as he became the starting quarterback due to injuries. In 2011, Yates totaled a 2-3 record, three touchdown passes, three interceptions, 949 passing yards, and a 61.3 completion percentage.
Unlike any of the Jets’ quarterbacks, Yates also has some playoff experience under his belt. Also in the 2011 season, Yates was the starting quarterback for the Texans. Yates wasn’t the reason why the Texans were able to win one of the two playoff games that season, as he totaled one passing touchdown and three interceptions in the 2011 Playoffs.
Yates was once again asked to start last season, and he was able to win both games for the Texans. Houston knew that they needed to upgrade at the quarterback position this offseason, and that resulted in them handing Brock Osweiler a monster deal. Yates would be a pretty solid option for the Jets as a veteran quarterback that has played in the postseason.
