New York Jets: Five Muhammad Wilkerson Trade Options
By Ade Hennis
5. San Fransisco 49ers: Colin Kaepernick, QB
With a league high of an estimated $48 million in cap space, the 49ers can easily take Wilkerson’s contract and make him the highest paid defensive player next offseason. Kaepernick’s contract would be brutal for the Jets, but he’s easily more proven as quarterback then Fitzpatrick or any quarterback the Jets currently have on their roster.
With the 49ers reportedly likely to start Blaine Gabbert at for next season, San Francisco will be able to get rid of Kaepernick’s contract, which is too high for a backup QB. At worst, if Kaepernick ends up playing bad for the Jets, he’s only fully guaranteed for the next two seasons, and the Jets would only have $24.2 million left of guaranteed money to pay him for the last three seasons of his contract.
With Fitzpatrick seeming to be nowhere near a deal with New York and the Jets need at QB, this is likely the most realistic trade option.

New York could possibly find their franchise quarter back in Kaepernick and if it doesn’t work out, hopefully young quarterbacks Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg are prepared to be starters for the Jets.
