New York Jets: Five Muhammad Wilkerson Trade Options
By Ade Hennis
3. Washington Redskins: DeSean Jackson, WR
Wilkerson and Jackson both are free agents in 2017 and it’s likely they both won’t be retained by their current team, so this trade works out for both sides. The Redskins defense was horrible last season, especially their rushing defense, having the seventh worst in the league. Having a dominant player on the defensive line would be an immediate boost to their poor ground defense.
The Jets get the deep threat they need in Jackson and the Redskins get a much needed boost on defense with Wilkerson. What Washington lacks in interior defense, is nearly as equal to what New York lacks in speed.
The Jets need speed desperately and while Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are one of the best duos in the NFL, they are mainly possession receivers and don’t take the top off of defenses. Jackson easily gives the Jets the deep threat receiver they wanted in Devin Smith, but with poor hands and his injuries, the Jets 2015 second round pick may need time to develop.
Bringing Jackson to New York would also be an incentive for Fitzpatrick to come back, as the Jets would have another legit weapon for the quarterback.
