The Washington Redskins are best equipped to blanket the Giants’ passing attack. Cornerback Josh Norman, who’s acquainted with Beckham, will likely take on the assignment alone.

With Norman and Beckham in a clean battle downfield, it’s imperative for Cruz and Shepard to win their matchups. Cornerback Bashaud Breeland continued to overachieve in the defensive backfield. The 2014 fourth-round pick has racked up 29 passes defensed and four interceptions in two seasons. He’s a solid No. 2 defender opposite Norman in coverage.

The Giants must test the Redskins secondary in the slot. Rookie Kendall Fuller will compete for the nickel back position. Manning should single him out utilizing Shepard, who runs sharp routes or an experienced veteran in Cruz.

In the previous season, the Giants’ ground attack drew plenty criticism at No. 18 in yards gained, but the Redskins ranked No. 20 in the same category.

Alfred Morris, Washington’s former No. 1 running back, signed with Dallas via free agency, which leaves the Redskins with second-year back Matt Jones as the featured ball-carrier. He averaged 3.4 yards per carry in the previous season but showed receiving skills out of the backfield.

The Giants and Redskins will compete in scoring battles through the air, but the edge goes to the better quarterback. On an even playing field, take Manning over Kirk Cousins any day.
