Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys secondary overachieved under defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli during the 2015 season without starting cornerback Orlando Scandrick. Dallas’ pass defense ranked No. 5 in yards allowed and No. 3 in touchdowns surrendered.

This year, Manning will have enough weapons at wide receiver to test cornerback Morris Claiborne in coverage. The Cowboys’ 2012 first-round pick has disappointed after a terrific career at LSU.

According to Dallas Morning News reporters Jon Machota and Brandon George, Claiborne has shown urgency at practice in a contract year. Whether he carries his inspired play over to the regular season remains to be seen.

The Giants should target Claiborne and Scandrick, who returns to action after sitting out due to an ACL injury. If either cornerback shows flaws in coverage, Shepard or Cruz could lead the fireworks in an offensive shootout.

For the Cowboys, it’s in their best interest to use the ground attack to limit the Giants’ possessions. Otherwise, Manning has the advantage in outgunning Tony Romo from the pocket.
