New York Mets: 7 Options To Permanently Fix 3rd Base Situation
4. Pablo Sandoval
Yeah, you read that right, the Kung-Fu Panda himself. I know this one technically wouldn’t do the Mets any good this season since Sandoval is recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery, but this is still the same guy who was at the stomach–heart, I meant to say, heart, of two San Francisco Giants Championships.
I for one refuse to believe he’s washed up. If the Red Sox are willing to eat (that time it was intentional), about three-quarters of the remaining $72 million owed through 2020, then this is a low risk, high reward type trade.
For those that will argue an injured Sandoval is no better than a hurt Wright, I say stop! This is Sandoval’s first extended stay on the disabled list. And it’s a left labrum injury; the man throws right-handed.
Now yes, the weight thing is an issue, and that would have to be corrected immediately pending a potential deal, but still at only 29-years-old, Sandoval is a career .287 switch hitter with an above average glove and throwing arm.
