New York Mets: 6 Options To Replace Lucas Duda

Kelly is who the Mets called up to replace Duda on the 25-man roster with. It was an easy choice for the Mets, as Kelly came to the club with the highest batting average in professional baseball, as he hit .391 with the Mets’ Triple-A team in Las Vegas.

But, like everyone else on this list, Kelly has little experience playing first base. Kelly does not even have first base listed as one of his positions, but he will probably receive a shot at some point because of the offensive potential he brings. It would be tough to imagine Collins, who has watched his offense struggle recently before Monday’s seven run outburst, not give a player with the offensive stats of Kelly this season a chance.

Kelly is a utility player, and that is as much a reason he was called up as any. With the lineup going to be changing constantly with Duda out, the Mets will need as much versatility off their bench as they can find. Kelly has experience playing all three outfield spots, third base and second base, also making a cameo at shortstop.

That should help keep him around, but he is not the long-term answer at first base to replace Duda during this stretch. But, if he can carry over some of the success from Las Vegas to Queens, he could find himself in the lineup at other positions.
