Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant is the cream of the crop for this free agent class and tops our dream scenario list for Knicks free agent acquisitions. There are already rumors that Durant has knocked the Knicks off his list of potential landing spots, but a person can dream right?

Durant would instantly upgrade the Knicks and make them a legitimate playoff team in the Eastern Conference. Paired alongside Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks would have arguably the strongest one-two punch in the NBA in terms of scoring as there aren’t many players that score the ball as easily as those two.

The Knicks would be a matchup nightmare for most teams, as they would have to choose who to put the focus on as you cannot double team both of them. It would give Anthony someone else to help with the scoring burden, something that he has never had with his time with the Knicks. Also, if Durant wants to win, the path to an NBA Finals appearance is much easier to navigate in the Eastern Conference than the Western Conference.

While Durant and Anthony would be a dream come true for Knicks fans, it would be a poor fit. The Knicks already have their frontcourt set with Anthony, Porzingis and Lopez. The only way Durant would fit is if Lopez is traded, and that is very unlikely. It would push Porzingis to center full time, which may happen down the road but not currently, as Porzingis does not seem ready to be the sole anchor playing center.

Durant will be atop many Knicks’ fans wish lists once free agency begins, but it is unlikely that he is wearing orange and blue next season.
