Mikhail Grabovski

Another one of the Islanders’ signings prior to the 14-15 season was a deal that brought Mikhail Grabovski to New York. Grabovski has had some great seasons in his NHL career, but unfortunately, those haven’t been with the Islanders.

During his time with the Maple Leafs, Grabovski totaled over 50 points in two seasons, and even in the season prior to signing with the Islanders, he totaled 35 points with the Washington Capitals.

The main reason for Grabovski’s struggles the past few season has been due to injuries. Last season, he was only able to play in 51 games last season, and 58 games this season. Grabovski’s injuries also have cost him nearly all of the games that the Islanders have played in the postseason the last two years, as he played in just three games.

Moving on from Grabovski is going to be a very difficult thing to accomplish for the Islanders, as he is making $5 million annually for the next two seasons. Grabovski was the second-highest paid forward on the team last season behind John Tavares, and that doesn’t bode well for the Islanders at all.

Having money to spend will be key for the Islanders, and Grabovski’s lack of production and injuries makes him one of the most appealing players to try part ways with.
