The New York Islanders will be making some changes this offseason, and here are five players that shouldn’t be on the team at the start of next season.

It has been a successful past few seasons for the New York Islanders, as they have made the playoffs the past two seasons, and were able to advance into the second round of the playoffs this past season for the first time since 1993.

While it is great to see progress being made in their quest to raise the fifth banner, the team still needs to improve before they can reach the Stanley Cup finals. There are a few players on the team that the Islanders might be best-suited to either let go in free agency or explore a trade to help get some more salary to spend on a few key free agents.

The offseason was rather quiet for the Islanders last year, but general manager Garth Snow has been aggressive when needed for the Islanders. A few players stepped up for the Islanders in the playoffs and late in the regular season this past year that may have made some veterans expendable, as the Islanders try to make the next step forward.

Here are five players that the Islanders should part ways with before next season.
